At Shackleton we understand that the reputation of the credit provider is paramount. At all times, therefore, we act in a professional manner which preserves this reputation. There are a limited number of credit providers in the South African market and we have done business, and continue to do business, with the overwhelming majority of these credit providers. We would not be able to do this if we did not put the reputation of the credit provider in the forefront of our considerations. Have a look at our clients page to see who has engaged with us.
We buy non-performing, rehabilitated and performing debt from credit providers but also offer the service of collecting debt on behalf of credit providers on a no-collect no-fee basis (a contingency arrangement).
We typically purchase debt from, or collect on behalf of, all banks and retailers which provide credit. This includes vehicle finance houses and lenders who are not part of a commercial bank. Shackleton will look at acquiring debt from any credit provider as long as the portfolio is large enough – generally in excess of R20million face value.
We do not typically purchase the following type of portfolios:- debtors’ books of professional practises (attorneys, doctors, engineers, accountants), hospital/medical accounts, cell phone accounts, school fees.
We will collect on an agency/contingency basis for most credit providers. Generally however the take-on portfolio and ongoing account hand-overs need to be large enough to establish a mutually beneficial ongoing relationship.
Shackleton is an industry leader in the field and has been in the business of acquiring distressed and other debt from credit providers since 2012. Up until mid-2015, Shackleton had acquired in excess of R4billion of face value of debt since inception from credit providers, comprising many hundreds of thousands of accounts in numerous transactions. We have a great deal of experience in concluding transactions and pride ourselves on being easy to do business with from a seller’s perspective.
